Throughout the semester, my skills as a peer reviewer have drastically improved. Before I came to UNE, I did little peer review. At my high school, this was not an area my teachers focused on. When we were asked to review, we had no guidelines and were not graded on how we peer-reviewed. Some teachers didn’t even have it in their classes at all. This resulted in, what I know now to be, peer reviews. This is evident in my first peer review of this class. We started the semester with a writing assignment on grades. For this assignment, we had to review a peers paper. Because of my background in peer review, my inexperience showed its self in my comments. For my peer’s paper, I left two comments and very limited ones at that. One of my comments was asking what his experience was that he mentioned in his paper. In my former selves defense, this was not a terrible comment but was not key to helping the main things the essay needed help with on a global level. My other comment was to add a comma. Clearly, this was not enough to meet the standards of this class. Luckily, I have made a drastic improvement in this area. Thanks to more information on peer review and a guideline, I was able to make comments that were on par with the level of this class. This is best expressed on our social media paper. The first sign of improvement was the number of comments jumped by 7. With 9 comments I was already making progress. The subject matter of my comments changed as well. One of my better comments was letting my peer know where he could use a quote to set up a piece of his evidence. I also let him know where he could use more analysis where I thought it was lacking after a claim. I also had little critiques to help out a little bit. Another thing I included was parts that I thought worked well for the paper. Clearly, I have improved on my ability to critique my peers work on a global level.
